MR. SMITH GOES TO CHINA

  • Daniel Cormier, Colby Community College, freestyle wrestling, became dehydrated before his first match and had to drop out
  • Leroy Dixon, Kansas City Community College, track and field, did not run in the preliminaries of the 400 relay
  • Hyleas Fountain, Barton County Community College, won the bronze medal in the heptathlon
  • Tyson Gay, Barton County Community College, track and field, was part of a dropped baton exchange which disqualified the American 400 relay team
  • Rodney Martin, Kansas City Community College, track and field, ran on the disqualified 400 relay team
  • Randi Miller, Neosho County Community College, won the bronze medal in 63-kilogram wrestling, taking down Canada's Martine Dugrenier with 13 seconds remaining in the third for the decisive point
  • Tom Pappas, Kansas State assistant coach, track and field, dropped out of the decathlon after injury his foot in the second event, the long jump

  • Leevan Sands, Barton County Community College, track and field, won the bronze medal in the triple jump, setting a national record

  • Ryan Brathwaite, Barton County Community College, track and field, was seventh in his semifinal of the 110-meter hurdles
Canada:
  • Scott Russell, University of Kansas, track and field, qualified for the javelin finals
Grenada:
  • Randy Lewis, Wichita State, track and field, failed to reach the fianls of the triple jump
Jamaica:
  • Nickesha Anderson, University of Kansas, track and field, did not run in the 400 relay preliminaries
  • Veronica Campbell Brown, Barton County Community College, won the gold medal in the 200 meters. She also anchored the 400 relay team which won its semifinal
Lithuania:
  • Darius Draudvila, Kansas State, track and field, did not compete in the decathlon
  • Austra Skujyte, Kansas State, track and field, did not finish the heptathlon after failing to record a mark in the long jump
New Zealand:
  • Natalie Purcell, Hutchinson Community College, basketball, scored 6 points against the U.S. on Sunday
Palau:
  • Florian Skilang Temengil, Newman, lost his first round match in 120-kg freestyle wrestling
Trinidad and Tobago:
  • Aaron Armstrong, Barton County Community College, ran the third leg for Trinidad's 400 relay team which won its semifinal heat.
U.S. Virgin Islands:
  • Tabarie Henry, Kansas City Community College, track and field, set a national record in the 400 with a time of 45.19, but did not advance to the event finals
